About JNTU project requirements
JNTU (Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University) operates through three autonomous campuses in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh:
- JNTUH — Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (Telangana). Affiliates 300+ colleges.
- JNTUK — Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh). Affiliates 200+ colleges.
- JNTUA — Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh). Affiliates 150+ colleges.
While there are differences in semester structure and grading between the three campuses, the core project requirements are similar across all JNTU universities.
JNTU project evaluation structure
For BTech CSE students at JNTU:
- Project Phase 1 (7th semester) — worth 2 credits. Includes topic selection, literature survey, and preliminary design. Evaluated through mid-semester and end-semester reviews.
- Project Phase 2 (8th semester) — worth 8-10 credits. Includes implementation, testing, and final submission. Evaluated through internal reviews and external viva.
The evaluation split is typically 60% external (university-appointed examiner) and 40% internal (college guide). This high external weightage means the final demo and viva are critical.
JNTU documentation requirements
- Project report in prescribed format with Gantt chart in Chapter 1
- Both DFD and UML diagrams required in the system design chapter
- Testing chapter must include at least 15 test cases
- References must include IEEE papers published in the last 3 years
- Plagiarism report from Turnitin or similar tool (must be below 25%)
- Hardbound report (black cover, gold lettering)
- Source code CD/DVD required at most affiliated colleges
Differences between JNTUH, JNTUK, and JNTUA
- JNTUH — follows R18/R22 regulation. Project worth 10 credits total. Requires a project expo or poster presentation in addition to the viva.
- JNTUK — follows R20 regulation. Emphasis on industry-oriented projects. Some colleges require an industrial mentor in addition to the academic guide.
- JNTUA — follows R19/R23 regulation. Requires a seminar presentation before the project demo. Greater emphasis on the project report quality.
