Why does your project presentation matter?
In most Indian universities, the viva-voce and project demonstration carry 30-50% of your total project marks. The PPT presentation is the primary tool evaluators use to understand your project before they start asking questions. A well-structured presentation shows that you understand your own project deeply — and sets a positive tone for the entire evaluation.
Evaluators typically spend 8-15 minutes per student on presentations. With 15-20 slides, that gives you roughly 30-45 seconds per slide. Every slide needs to count.
Slide-by-slide structure for project PPT
Here is the exact slide structure that top-scoring students use. Our free template follows this same order:
Slide 1: Title slide
Include your project title, team member names with enrollment numbers, guide name, department, college name, and submission date. Keep it clean — one centered block of text with your college logo if available. Avoid decorative clip art or stock images.
Slide 2: Table of contents
A simple numbered list of all sections you will cover. This helps evaluators know what to expect and shows that your presentation is organized. Example: 1. Introduction, 2. Problem Statement, 3. Objectives, 4. Technology Stack, 5. System Design, 6. Implementation, 7. Testing, 8. Demo, 9. Conclusion, 10. References.
Slide 3: Introduction and background
Two to three bullet points introducing the domain. What area does your project belong to? Why is this area important? Keep it concise — the evaluator wants context, not a lecture. Example: "Healthcare in India faces a shortage of radiologists. AI-powered screening tools can help bridge this gap."
Slide 4: Problem statement
State the specific problem in two to three bullet points. Be precise and quantifiable. Example: "Manual screening of chest X-rays takes 20 minutes per patient. Error rates increase in high-volume hospitals." This slide should make the evaluator nod — they should immediately understand why your project exists.
Slide 5: Objectives
List three to five objectives as bullet points. Each should start with an action verb: develop, implement, design, evaluate, deploy. Keep each objective to one line.
Slide 6: Technology stack
Use a clean table or icon-based layout to show your tech stack. Categorize into Frontend, Backend, Database, ML/AI, and Deployment. Include version numbers. Evaluators often ask about technology choices — be ready to justify each one.
Slides 7-8: System design
Show your system architecture diagram on one slide and your ER diagram or DFD on another. Use clean, readable diagrams — not hand-drawn ones. Label all components clearly. These diagrams are the most commonly asked about during viva.
Slides 9-12: Implementation (key modules)
Dedicate one slide per major module. For each module, show a screenshot of the working feature and two to three bullet points explaining the logic. Avoid pasting code on slides — evaluators want to see outputs, not syntax. If you need to show code, keep it to 5-8 lines maximum.
Slide 13: Testing
Show a summary table of test cases with Test ID, Description, Expected Result, and Status (Pass/Fail). Include five to eight representative test cases. Mention the testing tools you used.
Slide 14: Conclusion and future scope
Summarize what you built and achieved. Then list two to three future enhancements. This shows evaluators that you see your project as a real product with potential, not just an academic exercise.
Slide 15: References
List five to eight references in IEEE format. Include the research papers and documentation you actually read. Evaluators sometimes pick a reference and ask you about it.
Presentation tips that score marks
- Maximum 6 bullet points per slide — less text means you actually explain during the presentation instead of reading
- Use consistent fonts — stick to one font family throughout. Calibri or Arial work well.
- Include your college logo — on the title slide and as a small watermark in the footer
- Practice the 10-minute version — most evaluators cut you short if you go over 12 minutes
- Prepare for questions — know your code, your design choices, and your limitations
- Number your slides — so evaluators can say "go back to slide 7" during questions
- Use dark text on light background — projectors in college labs often wash out light-colored text
Common mistakes in project presentations
- Pasting entire paragraphs from the project report — slides are for points, not paragraphs
- Using animated transitions and sound effects — these look unprofessional in an academic setting
- Skipping the demo — always prepare a live or recorded demonstration of your project
- Not knowing your own code — evaluators can tell if you bought a project and did not study it
- Having more than 25 slides — keep it focused. Quality over quantity.
